You need a tool for one job, a speaker for Saturday or a camera for a particular shoot. You have browsed listings but have not found a suitable option nearby. What next?
A clear rental request gives owners the information they need to decide whether they can help. Name the item, say when you need it, give an approximate area and explain any essential requirements.
Rentify lets you post a request rather than relying only on browsing. It is not a guarantee that an item will be available, but it gives you another way to look.
Put the item and dates in the title
“Need something urgently” gives an owner very little to work with. “Cordless drill needed this weekend in Leeds” is easier to understand at a glance.
Use the item's everyday name. If a particular specification matters, include it — but do not request a specific brand unless you genuinely need that model.
Examples:
- “Projector and screen for an indoor party on 31 October”
- “Carpet cleaner needed for one day in Bristol”
- “Camera tripod for a weekend shoot in Manchester”
These are examples of requests, not claims that those items are currently available in those locations.
Explain what the item needs to do
An owner may have a useful alternative if they understand the job.
For tools, describe the task and material rather than guessing which machine you need. For cameras, mention the lens mount or device compatibility. For party equipment, explain the room, approximate guest count and how you plan to connect your devices.
Be honest about your experience. An unfamiliar powered tool is not a safe shortcut just because someone is willing to lend it. Check instructions and training needs, and consider finding a service provider if the task requires specialist skills.
Give collection and return details
“Saturday” can mean collection on Friday evening or early Saturday morning. State the dates and approximate times you can collect and return.
Mention whether you have transport and how far you can reasonably travel. Do not assume delivery is included.
If your dates are flexible, say so. A small amount of flexibility may make an otherwise unsuitable option workable, without requiring the owner to guess.
Set out your budget carefully
If you include a budget, say whether it is for the whole hire period or per day. Ask for the full cost before agreeing anything.
Distinguish the rental charge from any refundable deposit or card hold. Check the actual listing and booking terms for fees, deposit arrangements, cancellation and return requirements.
Compare like for like: one offer may include necessary accessories while another requires you to provide them.

Flexibility: I can consider [alternative dates/models], but [requirement] is essential.
Leave out your full home address, phone number and sensitive personal information from the public request. Share only the private collection details necessary once arrangements are agreed.
Check the reply before making a booking
A reply is the start of a conversation, not proof that every detail is agreed. Confirm the exact item, condition, accessories, availability and total price.

Can I request an item that is not listed?
Yes, you can describe what you are looking for in a request. Whether someone can offer it depends on local availability; posting does not guarantee a reply or booking.
Should I include my exact address?
No. An approximate area is enough for a public request. Keep your exact address and other sensitive details private, and share necessary collection information only when appropriate.
What if nobody replies?
Check that the item, dates and location are clear. Consider alternative equipment, a wider collection area or different dates if practical. For time-critical needs, also look at established hire businesses rather than relying on an unanswered request.
